Myth & Magic of Ukraine – An Exhibition by Anya Ichenska

Artist Anya Ichenska has arrived in Norwich as a refugee from the war in Ukraine.

She brings from Kiev these extraordinary images of the fables, fantasy and folklore that is the ancient Ukrainian tradition of souls, spirits and creatures that represent life, the seasons and nature.

Anya works with watercolour, inks, etching and mixed media, including foils, to create these visions in a style close to magical realism.

Much of the work escaped the war as precious luggage on the journey through Europe earlier in 2022, and more has been completed since. Her teenage daughter Amieli too contributes to this fascinating show in a similar style.

‘We are so pleased to be able to welcome Anya and her work to the Crypt Gallery; a chance for us all to engage with the stories she tells.’ Andrew Campbell, Crypt Gallery

The exhibition is open: Tuesday 1st November - Saturday 5th November
