How have you remained creative during lockdown?

It has been difficult at times to continue my own art practice, especially when it has felt uneasy posting your own art online, or having the luxury to do something you love. I’ve tried to remember that many of us artists work full time, whilst juggling our creative practices or working on projects on the side, although scary for many this “time off” has felt like a blessing in disguise. I have also used this time to carry out research on artists, and new ideas which has helped me reset my ideas and push my practice forward.

Has your creative practice changed at all during lock down?

During lockdown, I haven’t been able to get hold of some of the materials I would usually use to make my paintings, so I have had to work on a smaller scale. I have also had time to make lots of collages, which I can’t wait to translate into larger paintings when I’m allowed back into the studio.

How have you found it working from home?

At times, I have felt worried about not being able to make lots of large paintings, however I have had time to make drawings, collages and to read about other artists. These are things I longed to do before lockdown, but never managed to find time for.

Where have you been able to get your inspiration from during lockdown?

Social media has been a great inspiration- it has been the best place to see, share, and support art. There are many platforms trying to make the most of a slightly scary and very unusual time. Many galleries and Art Fairs have had virtual exhibitions, which has been amazing to discover new artists and galleries from around the world.

Do you have any advice for those people that are getting creative at home during this time?

I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. I’m all over the place one minute I’m super productive, and the next I don’t feel like making anything. I have found scheduling time for art during the day/week has been helpful. Also while at the moment, there are not many opportunities to physically show your work to the public, there are many open-calls for future residencies, artist grants and awards.
