‘THE SPIRIT OF BOUDICA’

Norwich Cathedral’s Crypt Gallery Announces International Women’s Day Exhibition and Charity Auction

Thursday 7th March to Saturday 16th March
Private View : Friday 8th March, 4:30 - 7pm

Culturalee Founder Lee Sharrock curates ‘The Spirit of Boudica’, inspired by the Norfolk-born Warrior Queen.

The Spirit of Boudica’ will open at the Crypt Gallery at Norwich Cathedral in Norfolk on International Women’s Day.  Inspired by Boudica, Queen of the ancient British Iceni in what is now known as Norfolk, the exhibition will feature paintings, drawings and prints inspired by the legacy of the ancient Warrior Queen.

“My curation of the International Women’s Day AOAP auction is themed around Boudica, Queen of the ancient British Iceni tribe. Boudica, meaning ‘Victorious Woman’, comes from Brythonic *boudi 'victory, win' and kā meaning 'having’. The brief I gave the artists was to create artworks inspired by Boudica’s image, spirit or strength, depicting women from history of modern-day Warrior women who continue the fight for gender equality, independence and freedom, or women who have made a contribution to society in a public way, or in a more personal way on a family or friend level. It’s been so inspiring to see how each artist has interpreted the theme, some in abstract and some in more figurative ways.” Curator Lee Sharrock

As well as the group exhibition there is an Art on a Postcard, International Women’s Day charity auction benefiting Dawn’s New Horizon, a Norwich-based charity helping victims of domestic abuse.

The auction is already live and you can bid on the postcards at the Art on a Postcard auction website. https://theauctioncollective.com/auctions/art-on-a-postcard-international-womens-day-auction--spirit-of-boudica-curated-by-lee-sharrock/
